LGBTQ Nation reports that, over the weekend, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene spoke at a Donald Trump rally in Michigan, and delivered a homophobic dig.
As everyone knows, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg is openly gay. Greene declared, "Democrats like Pete Buttigieg want to emasculate the way we drive and force all of you to rely on electric vehicles after they shut down your great Michigan auto industry."
She gushed over "the roar of a V8 engine under the hood of a Ford Mustang or Chevy Camaro and incredible feel of all that horsepower."
Greene's husband is divorcing the firebrand, and I can't help thinking this is a woman who's worried about where her next feel of horsepower is coming from.

Image: WikipediaRecently the hosts of "Fox & Friends" claimed that the Omicron variant was created to help make openly gay Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg president in 2024. The conspiracy theory goes that Democrats want the pandemic to continue for years so that Buttigieg has an excuse for not fixing the supply chain.
Nuttier than an almond tree grove.
The Fox fantasy did get me thinking about the possibility of Buttigieg one day becoming president. I believe we're still a ways from the country choosing a gay person for the Oval Office. If the election were held right this minute, not even the Stephen Sondheim sympathy vote would be sufficient.

What a Difference a Year Makes
President Joe Biden yesterday signed a law designating Orlando's Pulse nightclub as a national monument. Also yesterday, at a Pride commemoration event in the East Room, Biden declared, "Pride is back at the White House." Pete Buttigieg, the gay transportation secretary, spoke too, as did 16-year-old Ashton Mota, an Afro-Latino transgender teen. Faces in the room included Rachel Levine, a transgender assistant health secretary, and Bree Fram, a transgender lieutenant colonel.
A year ago, then-President Donald Trump had bravely proclaimed June as National Homeownership Month.

It's Not Easy Being Green
It comes as no surprise that Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg would be a target of rightwing conspiracy theorists, considering he's a member of President Joe Biden's Cabinet, gay and smarter than all the insurrectionists put together.
Recently Buttigieg was filmed riding a bike from his office to the White House for a Cabinet meeting. Conservative commentators and MAGA devotees shrieked that an SUV had driven him near the White House, and he'd pedaled the last feeble bit in order to get environmental cred. Buttigieg's green sheen is fake!
The transportation secretary actually did bike the three miles there and three miles back. As Snopes noted, "Buttigieg was not caught staging a bike ride after riding in an SUV. Countless headlines, YouTube video titles, and tweets were misleading and false."
I'm sure the weavers of conspiracies and tall tales aren't discouraged. Perhaps next we'll hear that the gay transportation secretary rides that bike around Washington singing "You can ring my bell, you can ring my bell. Ding, dong, ding, ah-ah, ring it."
