    Tales out of School

Campus Pride has released its list of the worst colleges and universities nationwide for LGBT youth.

It's no surprise that most of the schools on the list are Christian. After all, in his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus famously urged, "Judge often, and judge early, lest someone else get there first."

Some of the names on the list are predictable, like Liberty University, Bob Jones University and Oral Roberts University. Then there are the smaller Christian schools without a national profile.

Consider Corban University in Oregon, which in 2014 chose a professor specializing in "unwanted same-sex attractions" to chair the psychology department. At Hannibal-LaGrange University in Missouri, the employee handbook states, "Misuses of God’s gift will be understood to include, but will not be limited to, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, sexual assault, incest, adultery, fornication, and homosexual acts."

Always makes my day when sexual assault and homosexuality get equal billing.

To earn a spot on Campus Pride's list of the worst, these 180 institutions had to demonstrate a history of anti-LGBTQ practices, or have sought a Title IX religious exemption to discriminate against LGBTQ youth.

In other words, scattershot discrimination isn't sufficient. When it comes to bigotry, these are the schools that have distinguished themselves by giving it the old college try.

    Superhero News

They've been busy at DC Comics.  In new issues being released over the next few weeks, a Black transgender woman joins Wonder Woman's Amazons, and Clark Kent's son Jon, the new Superman, has a same-sex relationship.

Feels like the changes are coming faster than a speeding bullet.

Regarding the mocking of the manliness of Pete Buttigieg, I’d like to just say that Pete Buttigieg served six years in the Navy Reserve and deployed — and was deployed in Afghanistan. Tucker Carlson was booted off Dancing with the Stars after he couldn’t even do the Cha Cha.

    Fallow Period

When the Chicago Sky captured the WNBA title today, the women's professional basketball season ended. The women's college basketball season doesn't start in earnest for a couple of months.

It's a gloomy period between seasons for this lesbian women's hoops fan. If you want me, I'll be hanging out with Punxsutawney Phil.

    Loaded Day

It's Oct. 11, so that means it's National Coming Out Day.

    I'm a lesbian. You're shocked.

Today also happens to be Columbus Day. President Joe Biden issued the customary presidential proclamation honoring Christopher Columbus, along with Italian Americans, but Biden also issued the first-ever presidential proclamation marking today as Indigenous Peoples' Day.

It seems to me this is a lot of social and political pressure to put on one day. I hope we can come together as a united nation tomorrow to celebrate that most important of events, National Gumbo Day.

    Oct. 8

Today, Oct. 8, is International Lesbian Day.

I'm not sure how the day is supposed to be observed. But I'm feeling vaguely disappointed I didn't receive roses and a Starbucks gift card at work this morning.
